Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged its members and supporters “not to be threatened” by the result of last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the August 9 election, while PDP candidate, Iyiola Omisore came second.
In a statement issued yesterday by the state Chairman of the party, Bayo Dayo, the party said, “Notwithstanding the result, PDP in Ogun State remains strong and confident. No cause for alarm.”
The chairman, while urging members of the party to put the election behind them, added that “all wars and battles are not won by a careful and gallant warrior.”
“We urge our teeming members and supporters across the state not to allow the outcome of the election to dampen their enthusiasm but should re-energize us to return to the drawing board for strategic planning and clinical execution.”
“Ogun State is different from Osun State; so are the issues and personalities involved. It is therefore incumbent on us all to work together in order to translate our redemption mission into reality,” he added.
Dayo promised to provide a level-playing field for all aspirants, adding: “As earlier stated, any new member who requires a waiver will be given in our bid to provide the alternative needed by our people.”
The party chieftain urged aspirants for various elective positions in the state to come forward to obtain their forms of intent at the party’s secretariat.
