Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, has said he and his players have been left looking like “a bunch of idiots”, after they finished 2014 in 17th place.
Werder Bremen raced into a two-goal lead on Saturday and although Mats Hummels pulled one back, it was not enough for Klopp’s men to rise away from relegation spots in Bundesliga.
The German tactician is now grateful for the winter break and hopes it can re-energise his struggling team.
“The best news today is that football is over for 2014,” the Dortmund boss told Sky.
“Any criticism that we receive now is justified. We are standing here like complete idiots and it’s completely our own fault.
“We now have three weeks of preparation ahead of us. Then we will repair what we’ve done.”
Dortmund’s next league game comes up on January 31, away to Bayer Leverkusen.
