The Police Service Commission has said it is currently investigating some Commissioners of Police holding State Command appointments over alleged abuse of office.

The spokesperson of the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani disclosed this on Monday, while receiving the leadership of a pressure group, Concerned Citizens of Edo State, who were at the Commission to protest against what they called the continued underwhelming performance of the Commissioner of Police CP Haliru Gwandu in the State.

According to Ani, the Commission had received several complaints and petitions against some Commissioners of Police who were allegedly going against laid down rules and regulations and abuse of office.

He noted that the Commission will take serious action against any of the CPs found to have compromised his office.

In his words, “the Commission takes very seriously issues of abuse of office especially from State Commissioners which he said can lead to anarchy, and he stressed that the complaint from the Edo group will be expeditiously handled.

“We will not allow anarchy in Edo State; we will immediately look into this complaint and take a decision on it,” he said.

Earlier, the leader of the group, Hon. Henry Okpeme had complained of the collapse of security in Edo State, mentioning the alarming increase in high profile assassinations, kidnapping and rape.

He observed that the present Commissioner of Police appeared to have been overwhelmed or compromised and should be redeployed in the interest of the people of Edo State.
