The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has confirmed that the search for crude oil in the North-East has commenced in earnest.
Disclosing this on its twitter handle, the commission revealed that it had succeeded in mounting a Global Positioning System, GPS, monument at the Kolmani oil well in the region.
According to the statement, the GPS was mounted by a group of foreign expatriates and indigenous professionals from the corporation at the oil exploration site.
“NNPC group seismic crew has finally mounted GPS Monument at the Kolmani oil well site. The search for oil in the N/East (North-East) is truly underway!.
“The seismic crew moved for over five hours deep into the bush before reaching their destination; they had three flat tire incidents,” the message reads.
NNPC’s latest step towards oil exploration in the North is coming at a time when the Kogi State House of Assembly called on, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to add the state to the list of oil-producing states , following the exploration of oil in Echeno and Udeke, all in Ibaji Local Government Area of the state.
