Wawrinka claims French Open title


Stan Wawrinka has claimed his second ever Grand Slam title, by defeating Novak Djokovic 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 in three hours and 12 minutes.

The Swiss’ victory means that the world number one, is yet to win the clay court Grand Slam.

Djokovic was seeking to join the likes of Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as the only players in the modern era to win all four Major. The 28-year-old must now come back next year to give it another shot.

Wawrinka, who beat countryman Roger Federer in the quarter-finals, said: “I am sure Novak will win it one year.” .
