There are allegations that staff of the Warri Central Hospital are collecting outrageous amount of money for deposits of corpses as against the Hospital Management Board’s approval.
DAILY PST gathered that staff of the hospital’s morgue collect between fifteen to twenty thousand as well as three hundred naira for preservation of the corpses per night as against the Hospital Management Board’s approved eight thousand naira and one hundred and fifty naira respectively.
DAILY POST further gathered that the hospital morgue is under-staffed as it has only one staff simply identified as Ebi while the office is over-populated with touts who constitute nuisance in the hospital.
The touts allegedly collect money under the pretext of buying detergents and bathing the corpses for their clients.
But in a swift reaction to the allegation, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mrs. Stella Obere denied the allegations on behalf of the Managing Director, in a chat with newsmen yesterday.
The Image maker noted that Government approved deposit for corpses is eight thousand naira in addition to one hundred and fifty naira for preservation of corpses per night, pointing out that,” the count of the one hundred and fifty naira begins from the date of deposit.”
She stated that, “The allegation is not true and I don’t believe the staff will do that even though I have been getting reports of that nature which I have cautioned against.”
According to her, “I hear of them collecting money to bath the corpse, for detergents and others but that is not true.”
Mrs. Obere also explained that apart from a staff of the hospital’s morgue, Ebi, others who work there were youths fending for themselves.
