Security had been intensified in Badagry area of Lagos State over reports that militants had fled to the area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was because of reports that militants from Arepo area of Ogun had fled to Badagry due to the aerial bombardment of their camps by Air Force personnel.
Checks carried out by NAN around the town showed that security agencies have been deployed in strategic areas.
An Operation Mesa (OP MESA) van with eight soldiers was stationed at the Badagry roundabout carrying out surveillance.
One of the soldiers who spoke on condition of anonymity told NAN that they were carrying out surveillance around the place.
“We are here on intelligence report that the militants that were chased out from Arepo had relocated here. So, we are here to make sure that everything is in order,’’ he said.
Also, some naval officers were patrolling the river close to Topo area of Badagry.
An official of the navy told NAN that the operation was to safeguard the waterways.
“Nobody is going to come through the waterways and we are here to ensure that nothing like that happens,’’ the official said.
Also, NAN observed the presence of policemen from the Area K Command, comprising Morogbo and Badagry Division, patrolling the area.
Some of them were also stationed at strategic places to forestall any outbreak of law and order. (NAN)
