Acting Chief Justice of the Federation, CJN, Walter Onnoghen has finally appeared before the senate for his confirmation hearing.
The Upper Legislative Chambers led by the President of the senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, is currently screening Onnoghen.
Onnoghen has been in the acting capacity since he was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 10, 2016 when he replaced his predecessor, Mahmoud Mohammed, who retired.
The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo had recently transmitted a letter to the Upper Legislative Chambers on the nomination of Onnoghen for confirmation as substantive CJN.
Following the expiration of his tenure, the Presidency delayed in forwarding Onnoghen’s name to the senate for confirmation, an action which was highly condemned by Nigerians.
Against this backdrop, a Lagos based activist lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, dragged Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
Others enjoined in the suit are the National Judicial Council, NJC, and the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Justice Abubakar Malami, SAN.
