The withheld May/June 2016 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result of Bayelsa State candidates is to be released as the State Government has paid the outstanding sum of N174m to WAEC.
The Education Commissioner, Deacon Markson Fefegha made the disclosure while addressing newsmen after the 66th State Executive Council meeting at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Yenagoa.
He explained that the government had earlier paid an initial sum of N50 million before payment of the balance of N124 million to the examination body, noting that WAEC had promised to release the result within the week.
Speaking at the World Teachers’ Day, Deacon Fefegha stated that Governor Dickson had a robust interaction with Principals and Vice Principals of schools in the state to mark the event and promised to make the payment of teachers’ salaries a priority henceforth.
According to him, Governor Dickson also assured teachers of his administration’s determination to address their demands and issues raised during the interaction.
Also, he said government had paid the 2 months salary arrears of teachers and commended all stakeholders in the education sub sector, particularly parents and students for their patience and understanding during the non-release of the WASSCE result.
