The West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Wednesday released the results of the 2013 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Head, WAEC National Office, Charles Eguridu, made the announcement on Wednesday during a press conference at the WAEC office in Yaba.
According to him, out of the total number of 1,689,188 candidates that registered for the examination,1,671,268 candidates sat for the examination, while only 889,636 candidates representing 53.23 per cent obtained six credits and above.
He said that out of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination, 1,543,683 candidates, representing 91.38 per cent have their results fully released, while 145,505 candidates representing 8.62 per cent have a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates and schools in the course of registration.
The official disclosed that 1,074,065 candidates, representing 64.26 per cent obtained five credits and above, adding that 1,225, 591 candidates representing 73.33 per cent obtained credit and above in four subjects.
Explaining why the council was unable to give statistics of candidates who obtained credit and above in five subjects, he said “We are unable to provide that at this time because many candidates in the North Eastern part of the country have partial results at the moment, due to security challenges encountered there during the conduct of the examination, particularly loss of scripts.
He further noted that the results of 112,865 candidates representing 6.75 per cent were withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractices, stressing that the cases were being investigated and reports of the investigations would be presented to the Nigerian Examination Council (NEC) of the council for consideration.
