WAEC confirms Senator Adeleke sat for May/April 1981 exams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun state governorship election, sat for its examination in 1981.

Rasheed Olabayo and Oluwaseun Idowu,APC Chieftains in Osun, had filed a suit challenging Adeleke’s candidacy on the grounds that the senator, “did not possess his WAEC certificate.

Justice Musa had in his ruling on the ex-parte application by two APC Chieftains on September 11 ordered Adeleke to appear before the court on September 19 to show cause on why he should not be disqualified from participating in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

The judge also ordered WAEC to swear to an affidavit to confirm or deny participation of Adeleke in the 1981 WAEC examination and to also make available to the court the ledger containing names and results of candidates for 1981 WAEC examination.

In response to the court order, WAEC on Wednesday admitted that the PDP candidate sat for the SSCE in 1981.

The council confirmed Adeleke’s participation in a four-paragraph affidavit that Adeleke sat for the examination at Ede Muslim High School situate at Yidi Road, Ede, Osun State with center number 19645.

The affidavit deposed to by Osindeinde, Deputy Registrar/Head of School Examination Department accompanied with the ledger containing the names and results of all the candidates from number 001 to 221 who sat for the secondary school certificate examination in the said school.

However, the case was not heard on Tuesday as Justice Musa was said to have gone on an official assignment thereby making it impossible for the court to make the pronouncement on the WAEC report.

Counsel to Adeleke, Mr. Nathaniel Oke (SAN), while reacting to the findings of WAEC at the court premises told newsmen that the case of the plaintiffs had died.

He expressed joy with the finding as it will enable his client to comfortably participate in Saturday governorship election in Osun State.

On the other hand, Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr. Bankole Joel Akomolafe, also reacting confirmed WAEC response served on him.

He added that he will get in touch with his clients to determine the next line of action in respect of the case.
