A Police Inspector identified as Clement and attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT) is dead.
Clement died when the vehicle he and his colleagues were traveling in had a lone accident on Wukari Road in Ibi, Taraba State.
The Nation reports that the operatives, using a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number (Abuja) BP222RSH, had gone to Ibi to arrest more suspects linked to kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Bala, aka Wadume.
The eight-man team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, James Bawa, had arrested the suspects and were on their way to Wukari.
It was gathered that one of the rear tyres suddenly burst, causing a somersault.
Four other policemen and the five suspects sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.
Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, said he had not received details of the incident.
Meanwhile, the report of the panel set up by the military to look into soldiers’ killing of policemen part of the team which earlier arrested Wadume is being expected.
The panel was constituted by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin following a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Wadume had confessed that the Army took him to their base and had his handcuff removed through the effort of a welder before he escaped after his initial arrest by the police.
