Despite the judgement passed by the Appeal Court to reinstate sacked local government Chairmen and Councillors in Kogi state, the Senior Special Assistants appointed by governor Idris Wada to manage the 21 Councils are still in office, DAILY POST can report.
Available information shows that the court order which was to be effective immediately has been flouted as all elected grassroots politicians have been flagrantly denied access to their mandated duty posts.
DAILY POST was reliably informed that the state government is in confusion as to who to rely on between the reinstated elected Council Chairmen and the appointed SSA’s to mobilize victory for the November 21 governorship election.
Already some so aggrieved elected Council Chairmen and Councillors who elected on the platform of the PDP have openly defected to the opposition APC, while many are alleged to be neck-deep in anti party activities.
A reliable source told DAILY POST that the state governor has promised to allow them assume office after the November 21 governorship election.
Similarly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is said to have enticed the frustrated reinstated Council members with commensurate appointments if they lend their support to it to win the governorship election.
Though the PDP is relying on its imcubency to retain power, the APC on the other hand is cashing in on the ruling government’s inability to ameliorate the suffering of the workers, some of whom are still awaiting the payment of several months’ salaries arrears and allowances.
Up till now, Kogi state government is yet to access the N50.9bn bailout fund to settle the workers, blaming the APC for the blockage
In a swift reaction to the allegation of the blockage, the APC through Dr Tom Ohikere, the Head Publicity Committee Audu/Faleke campaign organisation, countered that Kogi state government deliberately refused to access the loan for reasons best known to it.
