Wada charges Kogi workers to take advantage of health insurance

Civil servants and all those working in the 21 local government areas of Kogi State have been charged by the state governor, Capt. Idris Wada to explore the potentials in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) so as to improve the quality of their health.

Wada gave this advice in Lokoja, the state capital, while launching the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He explained that the scheme was inspired by his administration’s intention to guarantee that people in the state have access to effective and quality healthcare services.

The governor, who was captured and registered into the scheme as a beneficiary with his identity card handed to him, commended the implementation committee and the political office holders in the state for their voluntary contribution to the 100 per cent premium.

According to him, the programme was aimed at easing the potential dream on cash flow of the government as proposed by the implementation committee.

Earlier in a speech delivered at the event, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Idris Omede, appreciated the governor for his interest on the health of the people, stressing that enrollment into the scheme were in phases which would begin from the political office holders, judiciary, specialist, staff of tertiary institutions to the state civil servants.

Meanwhile in her presentation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Insurance, Dr Dorcas Onuminya, listed some of the benefits the state government has gotten from the scheme since it was rolled out in the state.

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is a programme that involves the pooling together of resources for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient health delivery services to the people.
