Victor Umeh arrives Anambra from DSS office in Abuja, blames political opponents for arrest

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and APGA candidate for Anambra Central rerun election, Chief (Sir) Victor Umeh has described the allegations that took him to DSS Headquarters Abuja yesterday as treasonable allegations and handiwork of his political opponents.

Chief Umeh who stated this on Friday at the Party’s Secretariat in Awka after receiving a triumphant welcome from Abuja, said as a recipient of National Honour, it was impossible for him to incite the youths against the President and Federal Republic of Nigeria as contained in the allegation.

It was alleged that Chief Umeh if elected as a senator, would mobilize the youths and form a coalition with Niger Delta militants to actualise the Republic of Biafra, which he vehemently denied.

“I wasn’t campaigning to become a president so that when I get there, I would now do more than the President. I never mentioned any of those things.

“On the issue of being against fulani herdsmen, I told him (Musa Daura) that we never had any case of fulani herdsmen in this constituency and as such, can never make it a campaign issue.

“The allegations are laughable and don’t make sense, especially in my capacity as an Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR). Mischief makers are on it again”, the former APGA National chairman noted.

Umeh who was released from Headquarters of Director of State Security Services Abuja at about 12am Friday, maintained that he only condemned the use of force, such as live bullets targeted at civilian protesters during the IPOB protests.

Having found him innocent of all the allegations, the Director-General of DSS, Musa Daura, it was gathered charged him to maintain peace in country, adding that Chief Umeh was one of the people looked upon for peace in the country.

Umeh was arrested by DSS Abuja Thursday morning following allegations against him bordering on inciting the youth and supporting Republic of Biafra against the President, Nigeria, fulani herdsmen, among others.
