Vice-president Osinbanjo visits Borno


All roads leading to the city centre of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital were today shutdown following Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo’s one day working visit to the troubled northeastern state.

DAILY POST gathered that the visit was to assess the level of achievement made by the military since the relocation of the command centre into the state capital.

Our Correspondent reports that, the official visit of the number two citizen has caused serious gridlock in the state capital, and equally led to closure of shops and stalls, with security men placed on high alert to prevent any embarrassing attack during the visit.

A source told DAILY POST that the visit was to also ensure a smooth commencement of the operation of the joint military task forces of Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon in the Sambisa Forest. He said the operation will started after their special squad training in Chad.

DAILY POST observed that vehicular movements of both private, commercial vehicles and tricycles had remained at a standstill. No movement was allowed by security operatives.

It was also observed that schools, offices, motor parks and markets have remained closed.

The designated roads and streets the Vice President was billed to pass through to some military formations under the Division 7 Nigerian Army were heavily manned by the military.

The roads and streets linking Maiduguri International Airport, government house, Lagos street, Bama road along university of Maiduguri, customs area and market, Baga road, Pompomari Bullumkuttu and Borno express axis as were all restricted areas and routes since 6 am till the Vice President left Maiduguri town for Abuja late in the afternoon.
