Varane reveals Manchester United have made contact over summer switch

Real Madrid defender, Raphael Varane, has revealed Manchester United have made an approach over signing him this summer.

Varane has been a mainstay in Zinedine Zidane’s team this season, as they seek to finish off a miserable season with their third consecutive Champions League title.

His progress has long been admired by Jose Mourinho, who signed him for Real from Lens in 2011.

When asked on El Larguero if the Portuguese had been in touch over a United move, Varane replied: “No, not directly. There were contacts, but not directly.”

Varane also admitted that United striker, Romelu Lukaku, is one of the most difficult strikers to deal with in the game.

“I feel more comfortable with fast players because I try to control the depth. For my qualities, it’s what I prefer.

“When they are stronger I try to pass in front, that I cannot play. Like Lukaku, for example. He is the strongest forward in the world. It is pure power.

“You have to play differently. I try to be more complete to annoy any striker.”
