Van Persie clashes with Moyes over training methods, may miss Southampton game

It has emerged that Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, is not happy with David Moyes’ methods and the pair have clashed already.

The Dutchman is not pleased with the new manager’s emphasis on endurance and running, which was not so during Sir Alex Ferguson’s era. The 30-year-old feels he is being overtrained, which leaves him vunerable to injury.

It is also understood that Van Persie is not happy that Moyes allowed former United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen to leave.

According to sources, the former Arsenal skipper and Moyes exchanged heated words before the defeat in the Manchester derby, which Van Persie missed with a groin injury. It was the first time he missed a league game after 90 consecutive appearances and he blamed it on the training regime.

Ahead of Saturday’s match against Southampton at Old Trafford, the former Everton manager revealed that Van Persie is doubtful for the game.

“We have a few with knocks,” he told MUTV. “The one we are more worried about is Robin van Persie.

“He got a kick on the calf and he came off in the second game (against Turkey). He has had problems with his toes as well.

“We will see how he is.”
