Valdes set for Manchester United debut

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, is set to make his Manchester United bow this Friday, in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Cambridge.

The 33-year-old signed an 18-month deal to become David De Gea’s understudy this month, after training with the Old Trafford outfit for a while.

It will mark a return to action for the Spanish stopper, who ruptured his knee ligaments 10 months ago, while he was still at the Camp Nou.

Defender Chris Smalling says he has been impressed by what he has seen in training.

“He is someone who we all look up to through what he’s achieved already in his career, but you can see that he’s nowhere near done yet,” Smalling said.

“On the training field he’s so sharp and you can see that he’s very agile. He’s such a great addition and is a name that really belongs here at Manchester United.”
