The management of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto, has denied 400 per cent hike in the cost of the hospital’s services, saying the increase is only 20 per cent.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Yakubu Ahmed, gave the clarification when he addressed newsmen in Sokoto on Saturday.
He said the 20 per cent hike in the cost of services was due to dwindling cash allocation from the Federal Government.
Ahmed was reacting to a report by a media organisation in the state which quoted some patrons of the hospital as decrying the over 400 per cent increase in the cost of services and drugs at the hospital.
He explained that “we had to increase the cost of services we render to the public by about 20 per cent due to decreased cash allocation from the Federal Government for our overhead costs in recent months.
“We were formerly receiving about N42 million monthly for overhead, which now dropped to barely N11 million per month.
“For instance, we pay about N17 million to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company monthly”.
The chief medical director said that the measure had become necessary if the hospital was to sustain the provision of services to patients.
Ahmed said the increase was effected with the consent of members of the community, the Sokoto State Government and other stakeholders. (NAN) .
