Urologist advises men with reproductive challenges to seek medical help

Dr Celsus Undie, a Urologist with Kelina Hospital, Abuja, on Thursday advised men in childless marriages to seek medical help.

Undie told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that seeking help would enable the experts to know if the person had low sperm count or not.

According to him, there is nothing a man can do by himself to boost his sperm count.

“It is not related to how sexually active a man is and it is not possible to guess which man has normal sperm count and which one does not,’’ he said.

Undie said that sexually transmitted infections could be prevented by use of condoms, eating healthy diets, avoiding alcohol, cigarettes and use of hard or recreational drugs, like marijuana, morphine and anabolic steroids.

According to him, active sexually transmitted infection may not immediately lower sperm count.

“It is old infection, several years’ back, which can no longer be detected in the medical laboratory that causes problem as scars form in the tiny tubes within the testis and conducting tubes within the scrotum.

“These scars narrow down the tubes preventing transmission of sperm cells or even damaging the germinal epithelium where these cells are produced.’’

He, therefore, advised men with reproductive challenges to seek medical help and practice healthy lifestyle. (NAN)
