Uproar in Delta community as hoodlums rape house wife to death

Pandemonium on Sunday evening broke out in Okparabe community, Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State following the discovery of the body of a middle- aged house wife identified as Mrs. Beatrice Okpoudhu.

She was allegedly raped to death by a group of hoodlums.

It was gathered that the woman had gone in search of firewood to prepare meal for her husband during night fall when she was said to have ran into a group of hoodlums who raped her to death and dumped her body in the bush.

Mr. Sunday Akpoghene, a family member, who spoke to journalists in the area, said after a period of endless waiting by the victim’s husband for her return, a search party was conducted and her lifeless body was found in the bush a stone thrown from the house, and her body sustained with injuries including her private parts.

A police at Otujeremi Division, who spoke to newsmen on the condition of anonymity, said that two persons were arrested in connection with the incident, adding that clear indications showed that woman was allegedly raped and killed by the gang of the suspects as investigation was on going.

But the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, disclosed that it was the fourth of its kind in the last few weeks in the entire Ughelli communities.

He said, “the police are investigating cases of rapes, murder in many of the Ughelli communities, the anti kidnapping squad unit of the state CID has taken over those cases, particularly the woman’s incident, it’s the fourth case the police are handling, and all the hoodlums involved will be brought to book.”

Unconfirmed Sources said that the woman had been married to a farmer close to ten years without a child and was a devoted worshipper of an Anglican Church in the area before she was allegedly raped and killed.
