It has emerged that the fire that engulfed the Hilltop mansion of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, was caused by electricity power surge.

Reports have it that ‘Baba Iyabo’ as he is fondly called, left the building not too long before the fire broke out. The fire, which started at about 4.30pm, lasted for half an hour. Eyewitnesses say it started from his private office and started to spread to other parts of the building, before the security personnel alerted the state fire service.

They promptly showed up and put out the fire before it caused serious damage. No life was lost in the inferno.
