Some unidentified gunmen have killed a police Inspector and a Corporal in Jos, the Plateau state capital. The incident occurered at about 7:30pm on Tuesday.
The two officers were said to have died at the spot as they were allegedly shot at close range while on duty near the University of Jos, Jos North local government area of the State.
No reasons have been given so far on why they were attacked, and the identity of the murdered police officers could not be immediately obtained at press time. It is also reported that the said attackers made away with the officers’ rifles.
Abu Emmanuel, the State Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the death of the two officers, expressed dismay over the development.
“It is sad that these officers had to pay the supreme price while trying to protect citizens, ” he said.
He however assured that good efforts were on in order to track down the perpetrators.
