University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital owe contractors N150m – CMD

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH, Professor Abdulrahman Tahir has appealed to the federal government, to as a matter of urgent importance, assist the hospital with more funds to settle the debts it is owing contractors, as well as consultants treating victims of Boko Haram Insurgency.

He also lamented that the hospital equipment and facilities were over stretched and had broken as a result of frequent treating of victims of Boko Haram insurgency in the Medical and Radiology departments of the hospital.

Professor Tahir, who stated this, Wednesday, during the signing of the pact with the Victims Support Fund Committee, noted that last month when the Vice President Professor Yemi Osibanjo visited, he deposited N30 million as assistance to the hospital to reduce its debts while Governor Kashim Shettima also supported the hospital with another N10 million.

According to him, facilities and equipment have been over stretched at the mortuary, emergency and accident wards as well as Radiology department, where machines, scanners, cameras, tools and other accessories had broken down.

Professor Tahir further urged the federal government to build more wards and expand the Radiology department of the hospital in its 2016 budget to accommodate the increasing cases.

He pointed out that the hospital was presently indebted to the tune of N150 million as at July 2015 on the treatment of the victims of Boko Haram insurgency.
