Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has admitted that they would not have won the EFL Cup final, if not for Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s heroics.
The Swedish striker scored twice at Wembley, as United overcame a resilient Southampton team 3-2 to win their first trophy of the season.
“Honestly, Ibrahimovic won the game for us because he was outstanding,” Mourinho admitted afterwards.
“I can see a couple of performances – Pogba similar level – but he was outstanding.
“In a match where the opponent was better than us for long periods – they deserved to go to extra time – he made the difference and he gave us the cup.”
Mourinho also boasted that he was not surprised by his success, as he wins at any club he manages.
“This is what I predicted. I came here to show people what I would do and I’m doing it,” he said.
“I keep going. I keep doing what I do every year.
“I came to win and I want to keep going. The more I win the more satisfied I get.
“You push even more the older you get. At the beginning it is more fun but you don’t realise what it means. The more mature I get the more I understand that it’s all about winning.
“This is my 32nd trophy. I’m super happy. Wherever I go, I win.”
