Marouane Fellaini has said that Manchester United must set their sights on winning the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils have not won the league since 2013 and finished in seventh place in the 2013/2014 campaign.
They currently sit in fourth this season, five points ahead of Liverpool after a 2-1 win at Anfield last weekend. Fellaini admits Chelsea will win the championship this year, but says United must be in the running next term.
“I think Chelsea will win it [this year],” Fellaini told the Daily Mail.
“We need to be there next season to show everyone that we can be champions again. To do that we must work hard and to improve too.”
Speaking on their present position in the Premier League, the former Everton midfielder said: “It’s massive because this season we didn’t play the Champions League.
“So, for a team like Manchester United, we need to make sure we qualify for next season.”
The Belgium international also praised new manager Louis van Gaal, for helping him rediscover his form at Old Trafford. Fellaini has scored five goals in 23 appearances this season.
“Van Gaal is good,” he continued. “He has his philosophy, his own tactics. He has a vision for the team and he knows what he wants from the players, so it is good to work with him.
“I’ve played more games this season, so that is good personally. However, this season we haven’t won a trophy, but I now hope we finish in the top four to play Champions League.”
