The Manchester United first=team coach, who is currently number two to Sir Alex Ferguson, in Mike Phelan’s absence, is sure that thee striker will continue to play for a long time, but senses he will end up in football management.

“When you see how he works with the youngsters, he’s committed, patient,” he told Algemeen Dagblad. “There is a coach hiding inside him, although I think he will play as long as he can.”

Meulensteen also stated that Van Persie fitted in straightaway into United’s team, after his summer move from Arsenal.

“Robin loves the game,” he added. “I told him right after he came here: you here, it’s a good fit. He immediately found his way in the group. No arrogance, nothing. Perfect.”
