UNIOSUN: Group petitions Osun Assembly over 140 percent fees’ increment

A group, Osun Renewal Agenda (ORA) has appealed to the State House of Assembly to find ways in reducing the recent 140 percent increment tuition fees of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

The group in a letter addressed to the Assembly, copy of which was made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday called for the reduction of the tuition fees to the barest minimum in the interest of the good masses of the State.

ORA, which is a social-political platform rooting for the emergence of the ex-Secretary to Osun State Government, Alhaji Abdulfatai Akinbade as governor in the next election in the state, noted that the increment would bring more hardship to the people.

In the letter signed by its Director-General, Mr. Omotunde Stephen Adekunle, titled, “State of Education in Osun State: Passionate Appeal for reduction of 140 percent increment of UNIOSUN Tuition fees in the interest of Osun masses”, alleged that the current State House of Assembly members as representatives of the people, were not showing concern to the plight of the affected students’ parents and guardians, who would bear the brunt of the payment.

He said that the 140 percent tuition fees increment would bring untold hardship to the parents and guardians alike.

It stated that, “We are constrained to write your office this important letter in the interest of the good people of the State in order to use your good offices as a representatives of the people to look into the recent 140 percent increment of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) tuition fees which has been the parents and guardians alike a sleepless night, due to the state of their present economy and earning as a result of the half salaries payment regime of the present administration under the watch of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola in the State.

“As we all know, Osun State is a Civil Service State and 80 percent students of the Citadel of learning are indigenes of the State and there is no way the parents and guardians of the affected students could fund the Education of their wards with exorbitant tuition fees.

“Consequent upon this, we have taken it upon ourselves to make this onerous wake-up call to you and your colleagues so as to save the golden future of these leaders of tomorrow”.

It then urged the State Assembly to live up to the expectation by giving due consideration to the group’s letter on the subject matter as a matter of public urgency.
