Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has approved the appointment of Prof. Obafemi Ajibola as the new Chairman, Governing Council of the Osun State University.
He made this disclosure in a statement issued in Osogbo on Wednesday by his media aide, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon.
According to the statement, “The Governor of Osun and Visitor to the Osun State University, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has approved the appointment of Prof.Obafemi Ajibola as the new Chairman, Governing Council of the Osun State University.
“The appointment followed the resignation of the former Chairman of the Council, Prof Gabriel Olawoyin. Ajibola has been a member of the Governing Council of the institution”.
The statement ,however, did not give detail into the sudden resignation of Olawoyin from the position.
However, insider said the development might not be unconnected with the endless crisis between the council led by Olawoyin and the university management headed by the sacked Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bashir Okesina.
This prompted Aregbesola to set up a Visitation Panel headed by the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola to look into the crisis rocking UNIOSUN.
The panel subsequently recommended removal of Okesina; the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso; Registrar, Dr. Julius Faniran and Bursar, Mr. Bayo Lasisi.
