A total of 6250 students gained admission into the eleven facilities of the University of Maiduguri to undergo various degree programmes through Direct Entry and University Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, have been matriculated.
The matriculation ceremony which was presided over by the Vice – Chancellor of the University, Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi took place at the convocation square of the University on Tuesday, 25th November, 2014.
Delivering his address at the occasion, the Vice – Chancellor, Prof Njodi called on the newly admitted students to familiarize themselves with all the University rules and regulations and strictly adhere to them, stressing that the matriculation Oath they took was an assurance that they have come to the University to pursue learning and knowledge diligently and be of good behavior.
He said cultism, drug abuse and violent demonstration as well as other antisocial behaviour would not be tolerated by the University management.
He further advised the matriculating students to always seek redress to any problem they might encounter during their stay in the University at the appropriate quarters, adding that the University management on its part will do everything possible to maintain law and order and combat criminal tendencies; while on their part, they should avoid violating the University regulations.
High point of the occasion was the administering of the matriculation oath on the newly admitted students by the Registrar of the University, Mallam Babagana M. Aji.
A breakdown of the number of students admitted shows that the faculty of Education has the highest number with 1650 matriculating students followed by faculty of science with 1050 students, faculty of social science- 775 students, faculty of Management science-689, faculty of Engineering 582. Others include faculty of Arts with 410, faculty of Agriculture-395, College of Medical Science-340, faculty of Law- 201, faculty of Pharmacy-90 and Veterinary Medicine with 68 students.
