The management of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, has suspended two of its lecturers for alleged involvement in whistle blowing.
The governing council of the institution issued suspension letters to the lecturers, Kayode Afolayan and Dr Solomon Oyelekan on Wednesday.
Channels Television is reporting that the two suspended lecturers are the Factional Chairman and Secretary of the University Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU, respectively.
Although reports say their dismissal followed alleged insubordination and causing disaffection within the university, the duo, on their part alleged that they were being victimized for exposing corruption in the institution.
Meanwhile, the period for the suspension was also not mentioned in the letter and the suspended lecturers have reportedly petitioned their national body for redress.
Speaking with the medium, one of the affected lecturers, Afolayan noted that though the reason for their suspension was not known, they believe it has to do with their whistle-blowing of alleged impunity and corruption in the institution.
But the Factional Vice Chairman of ASUU, Dr. Bode Olumorin has called on the Federal Government, FG to come to their aid.
He said, “Since the government advised people to point out corrupt practices, they (the suspended lecturers) should not be abandoned.”
On his part, the Vice Chancellor, VC, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali reportedly distanced his office from the action, noting that, ‘the suspension was necessary.’
