UNILORIN student dies as Teaching Hospital staff industrial action continues

Vice Chancellor of the University of Illorin in Kwara State, has said the strike embarked upon by staff of the institutions Teaching Hospital has led to the death of a female student of the university.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, disclosed to thie newsmen in an official address.

Abdulganiyu noted that the deceased was admitted in the university clinic for three days but was later rushed to the Teaching Hospital, when her condition worsened.

His words, “Unfortunately, when she was taken to the teaching hospital, there was no one to attend to her because they are on strike and by the time she was taken to another private hospital, which was not also in full operations, the lady had passed on.”

He further expressed his displeasure over the rate at which students are being expelled from the institution.

He affirmed that the university authorities feels bad whenever students are expelled.

“We are established to produce graduates worthy in moral, character, and academic ability that will in turn be models in the society,” Abdulganiyu affirmed.
