Sequel to recent fire incident that burnt down the Library and some faculties at the University of Jos, the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) on Tuesday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, alumni and spirited individuals to assist the institution to rebuild the burnt library.
NANS through its Vice President, Special Duties Comrade Felix Attah, made the appeal when NANS officials visited the scene of the incident.
“We appeal to visitor and the Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, to specially intervene to the University of Jos as a rapid response to enable the institutions gain back her library by a way of Presidential intervention.”
NANS equally call on the Alumni of the institution and spirited individuals to also assist in the recovery of the documents that might have been lost in the unfortunate fire incident.
“We also challenge the University of Jos Alumni and parents to rise up to the challenge and contribute without measure to fix the damage properties.
The structure that was gutted by fire included the university library and six departments from two Faculties.
The incident has affected the ongoing examinations in the institution.
The Students Union leader call for full investigations into what led to the fire incident.
“NANS wishes to call on all relevant authorities to partner with the school management to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the fire incident with a view to avert future occurrence and to bring to book any institution(s) of individual directly or indirectly involved in this nefarious act no matter whose ox is gored.”
The student union officials, however, commiserated with the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sebastian Maimako, and his management team.
