The United Nation Children Education Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development and the Borno state government, yesterday, trained health personnel to vaccinate IDPs’ children in various camps within the Maiduguri metropolis.
State Executive Director, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Sule Mele said despite the insecurity that affected LGAs of Borno state, the polio vaccinators have been actively exercising their civil responsibilities within the designated IDPs camps in the state capital.
Dr. Hyelni Mshelia, who also spoke at the two-day workshop, said injectable polio vaccine training will greatly assist in administering vaccine on the displaced children in different IDPs camps situated in Maiduguri.
She however lauded the efforts of local government healthcare facilitators and the EPI managers in spite of the insurgency crisis in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the training which ended yesterday in Maiduguri, was organized by UNICEF, WHO, NPHD and the Borno state government. The participants were drawn from the 27 LGAs of the state.
Speaking as a resource person at the event, Alhaji Abatcha Ngala said the workshop was aimed at training EIP manager and health workers on proper injectable vaccine of polio storage, safe handling and administration among others.
