Two female students of the University of Benin, Ugbowo Campus were on Sunday, July 19th , ran over by an oncoming vehicle with the inscription “Thunder Storm Patrol 28″ at about 10 am.
The students were said to have been hit by the vehicle in an attempt to cross the Lagos/Benin Expressway which is directly in front of the school gate.
DAILY POST gathered that one of the girls, identified as a 200 level Philosophy student, Halima Rita, died from injuries sustained, as seen in the photo. However, the other student, whose name is yet to be identified, is in a terrible condition, at a hospital in the State. It is believed, at the time of the report, that she is battling with internal bleeding.
Students of the University who are saddened, had on Monday, trooped out in mass to protest against the death of Rita.
They called on the school’s attention and the State government to please provide speed bumps and flyover to prevent such sad and painful re-
occurrence of avoidable premature deaths of students.
