UNIBADAN: Gunmen injure two, cart away valuables after attacking female hostel

Some gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, in the early hours of Friday attacked the Obafemi Awolowo hostel located in the University of Ibadan and injured no fewer than two residents of the hostel.

DAILY POST gathered that the female hostel, which is fondly refers to as Awo Hall, is the closest hostel to the Polytechnic Ibadan.

It was learnt that the gunmen, who came to the hostel and shot sporadically to announced their arrival, raided the hall and took away valuables such as telephones and money from innocent students.

The attack, our correspondent gathered, is coming eleven days after the university placed ban on commercial motorcycles in the campus.

A source within the campus told DAILY POST Friday morning that the armed robbers injured no fewer than two students during the raid.

He said, “Obafemi Awolowo Hall, a female hostel in the University of Ibadan, was raided overnight by armed men just 11 days after the University placed a ban on the use of motorcycles known as Okada for Security reasons. Alleged cases of injuries and theft were said to have occurred.”

The Director of Communication, University of Ibadan, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, while confirming the incident to DAILY POST, disclosed that the injured students have been taken to the university’s heath clinic for treatment.

Oladejo, in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST, said, “Yes, it happened. The Chief Security Officer (CSO) Mr. Victor Fadeyibi told me that only two students were injured. And they have been taken to Jaja Clinic.

“The CSO told me that it happened this morning. The Police from Ojoo, Bodija, Sango were called. They came even, the Operation Burst came. They came and search for the robbers. I can tell you that investigation is still on.

“It is a female hostel. Many of the students were said to have been robbed. But, there is no reported case of rape.”
