Arsenal manager, Unai Emery wants to pick five potential captains in his squad, the UK Mirror claims.
The Gunners currently don’t have a captain following the retirement of Per Mertesacker, who hung up his boots at the end of last season to run the club’s academy.
Arsenal’s mental toughness and steel was questioned regularly in the second half of Arsene Wenger’s reign at the club and Emery is keen to address the problem, by landing tough characters with winning mentalities this summer.
New signings Stephan Lichtsteiner and Greek Sokratis Papastathopoulos, have already been brought in.
Tenacious midfielder Lucas Torreira, who signed this week, may be young at 22 but the Uruguayan has the qualities Emery wants.
So far, the Spanish coach has identified only Laurent Koscielny as skipper material, but the France defender will be out injured for the rest of this year.
