Unai Emery reveals why Ozil, Kolasinac were sent home before 2-1 defeat to Lyon

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has revealed that he sent Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac home, after deciding the duo weren’t in the right frame of mind, to take part in their Emirates Cup clash with Lyon.

The Gunners were beaten 2-1 by the French side on Sunday afternoon, with Moussa Dembele scoring twice for the Ligue 1 outfit, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s first-half opener.

Ozil and Kolasinac were conspicuous by their absence, three days after being the targets of an attempted carjacking in north London.

Both Police and Arsenal have confirmed that neither player suffered injuries in the incident.

The two players both arrived at the Emirates, ahead of the meeting with Lyon on Sunday afternoon.

But Emery decided that the best thing for the duo was to return home and spend time with their families.

“Every player is very important in the team, but also each moment and some circumstances give us a decision between the player and us.

“It’s not a good moment to play because their mind is not now 100 per cent,” he explained to reporters after the game.
