UN reacts to terror attack on Kenya

The United Nations has condemned the recent attack in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday.

According to CNN, the attack began at about 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT) as heavy gunfire and an explosion sent people running for their lives Tuesday afternoon at the compound in the Westlands district of the Kenyan capital, which houses the DusitD2 hotel as well as offices.

The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab said it was behind the attack.

Reacting to the attack, UN in a terse statement by its Secretary-General, António Guterres condemned the attack and expressed “his solidarity with the people and government of Kenya,”

The statement read; “The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Nairobi today. He is following developments in the Kenyan capital closely.

“The Secretary-General extends his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a swift recovery.

“The Secretary-General expresses his solidarity with the people and Government of Kenya.”
