UMTH: Doctors demand compensation, apology

The Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Arab Kolo Alhaji has demanded full compensation and written apology from the Inspector General of Police, M.D Abubakar over police display of unprofessional conduct at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH.

Dr. Arab made this known when Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima and other security chiefs in the state paid a visit to the hospital to appeal to the Doctors to call off their ongoing strike that resulted from police molestation of the Doctors.

Governor Kashim Shettima who pleaded with the Doctors to consider the plight of innocent patients in the hospital  also assured the Doctors that government will ensure that all those affected during the violent attack on the  Doctors would be adequately compensated.

He assured the Doctors that those who participated in the attack on them would faced the wrath of the law, describing their act as uncivilized and barbaric, which he said was unacceptable under a civil rule.

Also speaking during the visit, the Borno state Commissioner of Police, Yuguda Abdullahi assured the doctors that such primitive behaviour would not happen again, even as those perpetrators are already in detention and would definitely be prosecuted.
