The governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over alleged threats to attack secondary school principals by a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi state chapter.
It was gathered that the alleged attack followed the plan of Ebonyi state government to commence sensitization of the electorate on voters’ registration exercise in secondary schools, a move misconstrued by the opposition party in the state.
The governor made this known in a press statement issued to journalists in Abakaliki by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Emma Uzor.
He revealed that the threat was posted by a factional publicity secretary of APC, Mr. Nwoba Chika Nwoba who threatened that the party shall adopt all means to deal with the principals, should they undertake any step to increase the number of registered voters in the state.
It alleged that Nwoba had earlier issued a warning to primary and secondary school teachers for the last time not to invite troubles upon themselves by way of accepting to do the bidding of the governor which he said was to sensitize the general public to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, ahead of the coming election.
According to him “The APC Publicity Secretary had written to the principals and school head-teachers warning them not to invite troubles upon themselves by way of accepting to do the bidding of the governor of Ebonyi state as any head teacher found indulging in this will face the wrath of APC”.
The governor said that his administration will not leave anything to chances especially, when such costly and dangerous statement was coming from the mouth of the party’s spokesman at the time the state is facing a lot of security threats ranging from the discovery of IEDs and other forms of threats ahead of 2019 general election.
“Security agencies have been alerted to the threats on social media and other media platforms by the faction of APC against school teachers and principals of all the secondary school and maintained that should anything happen to any school head teacher or principal, the APC should be held responsible.
“Ordinarily, one would have ignored the irresponsible statement credited to one of the factional publicity secretaries of the APC in the state but for various obvious reasons which includes the fact that the boy works with a faction of the party loyal to a serving minister and a former governor of the state, a people reputable for violence, nobody will take such threats for a joke and secondly, the state has been experiencing strange political activities and security threats including the recent discovery of IED allegedly planted in PDP Secretariat targeted against the Governor, we are not going to remain mute on this threats because the Bible said that from the abundance of heart, the mouth speaketh”
“We are calling on the Inspector General of Police to order full investigation into the threats to harm our civil servants and provide constant security of our school teachers and principals and protect them from external aggression from the APC as any other explosive located anywhere around our schools, we will be forced to protect ourselves from these hawks.
“We are also not unaware of the various senseless killings in some states in the country and we are not going to take this threat lightly especially coming from APC and that is why we are raising this alarm for the public to know that the security of our brothers and sisters serving their father land as teachers or principals are in danger under the threats from the APC in Ebonyi state,” he stated.
