UI school confirms receipt of court summons over Hijab controversy

Authorities of the University of Ibadan International School on Tuesday confirmed receipt of court summons over alleged violation of right of some female Muslim students of the school to use Hijab.

DAILY POST recalls that the school had in the last one month, been engulfed with crisis due to the insistence of some Muslim parents that the use of Hijab is a fundamental human right of their female children.

The decision to ban the use of Hijab and persistence of the parents and their female children later led to closure of the school for one week last month.

Also joined in the suit No. M/706/2018 are the University of Ibadan, owner of the school and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the school, Professor Yinka Aderinto who doubles as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the university.

Aderinto has confirmed receipt of the court summons.

He, however, maintained that he will make no further comment on the matter since the case is now in court.

Aderinto insisted that the school is a law abiding institution and believes in the judiciary in resolving issues.
