Governing Council of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, has ordered with immediate effect the bursar of the institution, Mr. Micheal Alatise to pay academic allowances released by the Federal Government to beneficiaries in the institution.
DAILY POST recalls recently that scores of non-academic staff of the university recently paralysed academic and administrative activities in the school in a protest over the sharing formula of the N1.7bn earned allowance paid to the school by the Federal Government.
It was gathered on Wednesday that at a meeting of the council, presided over by its Chairman, Nde Waklek, a three-man committee was set up to decide on how the N105m belonging to the non-teaching staff would be shared.
The council appealed to the striking workers to go back to work while negotiation would continue at the national level between leaders of the Joint Action Council (JAC) and the FG.
The council resolved that appropriate sanctions would be taken against any of the school’s employee that infringed on the extant guidelines and rules of the university, while also warning against harassment of people and locking of gates during protests and strikes by the staff.
