A female student of the University of Ibadan, Miss Baliqs Olajumoke Adeniyi, Friday morning died in an auto crash involving a tricycle and a waste disposal truck in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The incident occurred around 9.20 am at leventies bus stop, along Sango-UI Road in Ibadan.
Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident shortly after it occurred saw scores of sympathisers and security agents trying to control the traffic and maintain law and order.
It was later discovered that one of the victims of the accident was a student of the University of Ibadan.
Two other victims who head injury and leg fractures in their head and leg had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Eyewitnesses at the scene told DAILY POST that the main cause of the accident is the bin disposal truck that was parked along the road.
It was gathered that the incident occurred when the tricycle with number plate RU 152 UP ran into the waste disposal truck with the description MARC LAMMERTYN.
An eyewitness, Bamgbose Omobola said that the UI female student went to the bank to pay her schools fess.
“The lady was coming from GTB bank at Ajibade bus stop where she went to pay her school fees. Her phone and bag was recovered and this was what made it easy for us to know that she is a student.
Another person, Adelowotan Adelani urged the government to regulate activities of disposal trucks in the state capital.
He said, “The tricycle route was from Orita Merin to Sango, this accident would not have occurred if the waste disposal truck was not packed by the roadside.
“We are appealing to the present and the incoming government in Oyo State to stop these trucks from evacuating refuse and packing by the roadside.
“The government should bring back the waste bin we were using before, whereby waste baskets were been put beside the road for the people to dump their refuse there.”
Spokesman of the Federal Road Safely Corps (FRSC), in the state, Mr. Oluwaseun Onijla who confirmed the incident promised to send full details of the incident, but yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.
However, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Gbenga Fadeyi who also confirmed the incident, said investigation is ongoing on the cause of the accident.
