A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Mr. Chinedu Eya has described Governor Ifeanyi of the State as a leader committed to all round transformation of the State.
Eya, who spoke to journalists yesterday, said the Governor’s efforts should be complemented by federal lawmakers from the State.
The senatorial aspirant for the Enugu North District said the Coal City State needed lawmakers who would reason like the Governor for the State to get to the desired destination.
“Ugwuanyi is a role model. If we can have all the Senators and House of Reps members complement His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and think the way I am thinking, just like Ifeanyi thinks, we are going to do wonders.
“Enugu State will become an epitome of observation, people will want to see our State. It becomes a reference point, because we can do it. I actually see him as workaholic governor, a target oriented governor and I want to work with him in that mindset, I want to compliment him, because if I compliment him, there will be maximum productivity.”
On what informed his senatorial aspiration, he said, “first of all, you check your own track records, you now try to marry yourself with who you know yourself to be and what a senator is expected to be.
“My aspiration is about my track record. I remember sometime in 2014, when i signed security agreement with the Chinese embassy, that is part of the influx of the Chinese you see around Ebonyi and Enugu. I did that as a lay person.
“I took that risk and today, you can see the presence we have of Chinese people. If I go to the Senate, I see myself bringing in industries because if we create more room for industrialisation, then we can create more room for employment. We can also create more room for growth and development and it will help us to get the actual IGR, not the recycling IGR, that is what I’m looking at.
“So, I’m looking at using government backing to bring down big industries here and then change the narration here.”
Eya equally expressed concern over the ecological problems facing the senatorial zone, noting that “me and my team have been working on about 25 major bills we intend to sponsor in the Senate. One of them is the bill on ecological management. The kind of earth structure we have here, we have to make sure that every road done here must have a drainage and the drainage should be channelled to a major place where it will not affect the populace. So, if you are building road, it must follow an established standard. That is what I’m concerned to do in the Senate.
“I also have a bill to improve in maintenance culture, so going to the Senate, we will concentrate on them in the next four years.”
“At 38 I am not too young. I don’t want to concentrate on not too young to run. I am running because I have the qualities and capacity to represent my people effectively. That vibrancy, that resilience that is required of a Senator is what I am going to give.”
