Ugbokolo shut down as BenPoly students protest 100 per cent increment in tuition fee

Ugbokolo in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State is literally on fire, following an ongoing protest by Students of the Benue State Polytechnic. The students have remained on the street since Monday morning to protest the abnormal increment of their school fees. DAILY POST gathered that Governor Samuel Ortom-led government recently increased their school fees by hundred per cent to the chagrin of the students who have stated that the increment was politically motivated and that the aim was to ”de-literate’ the Idoma Nation. The state government in a commemorative ad idem with the Governing Council of the Polytechnic increased the tuition by (over) 100%. A document obtained through a journalist, Yemi Itodo, shows that the National Diploma 1 Student of the institution is now paying N65, 000 as against N30, 000 of last session. Other details available to DAILY POST show that the students have now blocked the Otukpa-Otukpo Federal road. Security forces have reportedly been mobilized to the scene of the protest.
