UEFA has confirmed that Hawk-Eye will be the goal-line technology (GLT) of choice, at the European Championship in France later this year.
The European football governing body, picked Hawk-Eye over three other FIFA-licensed technology providers.
Hawk-Eye (GLT), which deploys seven cameras in each goal, is already used in the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and Italy’s Serie A.
It will be used along with the already-existing system of additional assistant referees behind each goal.
“Goal-line technology and additional assistant referees complement each other perfectly,” UEFA’s chief refereeing officer, Pierluigi Collina, said.
“Now, with GLT focused on the goal line, the additional assistants can focus exclusively on the control of other incidents in the penalty area, the most crucial area of the pitch.”
