Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has revealed what midfielder, N’Golo Kante told him at half-time in extra-time during the Blues’ UEFA Super Cup 5-4 penalty defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night in Istanbul.
Olivier Giroud gave Lampard’s side a deserved lead at half-time in Istanbul but Liverpool rallied immediately after the break and equalised through Sadio Mane to take the game to extra time.
Mane again struck in the 95th minute to put the Reds 2-1 up and Chelsea equalised through Jorginho’s spot-kick.
The match went into spot-kicks, with Adrian going from zero to hero as he saved Abraham’s effort to seal a 5-4 shootout victory.
Kante returned from injury and dominated the midfield for Chelsea against Liverpool.
But Lampard has now said that Kante told him he was struggling with the pace of the game during the brief interval in the extra-time.
“Kante said to me at half-time in extra-time that his legs were finished, his legs were dead, and then he’s sprinting 50 yards to cover,” Lampard was quoted by Express UK as saying.
DAILY POST had reported that Kante has been building up to full fitness since suffering an injury ahead of the UEFA Europa League final few months ago.
The France international will hope to lead Lampard’s men to victory when they take on Leicester City on Sunday in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.
