UEFA Super Cup: What Henderson called Adrián after Chelsea’s 5-4 penalty loss to Liverpool

Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson has described Goalkeeper Adrián as a hero after the Reds’ 5-4 penalty win over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday in Istanbul.

Henderson, who captained Jurgen Klopp’s side to a Champions League triumph last season, said that Adrián did a great job against Frank Lampard’s side.

OIivier Giroud gave Lampard’s men a deserved lead at half-time in Istanbul but Liverpool rallied immediately after the break and equalised through Sadio Mane to take the game to extra time.

Mane again struck in the 95th minute to put the Reds 2-1 up and Chelsea equalised through Jorginho’s spot kick.

The match went into spot-kicks with Adrian going from zero to hero as he saved Abraham’s effort to seal a 5-4 shootout victory.

“It was tough,” Henderson told BT Sport.

“It’s quite humid here, although you can’t really tell on the television.

“Extra time as well, you could see the lads were struggling a bit, sloppy passes.

“You’ve just got to try and keep it moving, keep the ball and get a breather.”

Henderson added: “It was a tough game, Chelsea are a good side. It’s not a nice way to lose, we know that after the Community Shield, but we’re delighted we’ve won this one.

“We’re delighted for Adrián, who has just come to the club and he’s the hero again tonight.

“He’s come in, he’s been asked a lot, but he’s done a great job and hopefully that’s just the start.

“We want to win as many trophies as we can, we’ve said that before, so we’re delighted to win the trophy and take it back.”
